The Lucky Accomplice to close on New Year’s Eve

In a recent social media post on Saturday evening, Logan Ely, the chef-owner of The Lucky Accomplice (2501 S. Jefferson), announced the closure of the Fox Park restaurant by the end of the year.

Ely mentioned that the reservation book is now open and that “they will fill up fast, especially for New Year’s Eve.”

Ely expressed his enthusiasm for the “ideas and collaborations we have planned for 2025 for this location, the block, and beyond.” Further details remain undisclosed, including the future of Press (2509 S. Jefferson), the innovative stuffed pizza and fresh pasta venture that Ely and his team introduced adjacent to The Lucky Accomplice in August 2022.

This morning, when reached for comment, Ely told SLM that the lease for The Lucky Accomplice is concluding and that closing “is the right decision at this moment, a positive move overall,” adding that “exciting opportunities” await.

We will provide more updates as they become available.

The Backstory

After launching the critically acclaimed Shift (formerly Savage) in 2018, chef Logan Ely unveiled The Lucky Accomplice in September 2020. This establishment offers a more relaxed, neighborhood-friendly atmosphere, debuted during the Covid pandemic. While Shift gained accolades for its inventive dishes, making it onto Bon Appétit’s list of the nation’s 50 best new restaurants in 2019, The Lucky Accomplice adopted a more casual format, allowing Ely to maintain a lower profile and avoid the “pomp, circumstance, and focus of a tasting menu format that put him in the spotlight,” as pointed out by SLM.

The Lucky Accomplice offered a whimsical menu with unique twists on everyday dishes, such as the Everything Tater Tot (shown to the right)—a deep-fried, grated russet potato disk topped with everything bagel seasoning—and the gigantic toasted ravioli (see lead image above). Ely described these dishes as “recognizable, beautiful, hilarious, and delicious,” capturing the joyful essence of the Fox Park restaurant.

Thanks in part to chef de cuisine Justin Bell and beverage director Corey Moszer, brunch quickly became a weekend favorite after its introduction in 2021. The restaurant transitioned to a tasting menu format in 2023, currently offering both a seven-course tasting menu and à la carte options, while brunch service has been discontinued. The Lucky Accomplice operates Thursday through Saturday nights from 5 to 10 p.m.
