St. Louis’s biggest music celebration is shaking things up. MATI — the Grand Center festival you probably still call Music at the Intersection — is back for its seventh year, and this time you won’t need an all-access pass to get in on the fun.
Organizers announced this morning that the 2027 festival takes over the Grand Center Arts District July 15–18, with a brand-new ticketing setup. Instead of one price covering everything, indoor shows will be sold individually. Pick the act you want, in the room you want to see them in, and buy just that ticket.
The indoor lineup of venues is stacked: returning favorites The Fox Theatre, The Sovereign, and Jazz St. Louis, joined by two heavyweight newcomers — Powell Hall and The Sheldon Concert Hall.
But don’t worry, the free part isn’t going anywhere. The festival’s signature free neighborhood block party is coming back in full force. On July 16 and 17, outdoor stages — The Big Top, a mobile stage rolling down Washington Avenue, and the Counterpublic Performance Green Stage — will host free performances and festivities. Eight national acts (still to be announced) and a roster of local St. Louis artists are slated for The Big Top and the Wash Ave stage, while the Counterpublic stage will showcase non-musical performances.
Festival organizers say the split approach is about keeping the event rooted in the community while giving people more ways in. Affordability is top of mind right now, and the free outdoor programming means tens of thousands of people can flood the streets of Grand Center, check out the district’s bars, restaurants, and museums, and still catch ticketed indoor shows on their own terms.
No lineup or ticket announcements yet — organizers say those land in late winter or early spring. But mark the calendar: July 15–18, 2027, Grand Center is the place to be.
