In late 2024, CarShield and Keystone Construction Company initiated the construction of a new athletic facility in Chesterfield aimed at revolutionizing youth sports in the area.
The $60 million project, scheduled to open in 2026, promises to deliver a cutting-edge experience for the expanding CarShield AAA Hockey & Futbol clubs, which cater to over 500 children and 45 teams in the St. Louis region.
“The intention behind this was not only to cater to youth sports but to provide families with activities while their children practice and play,” said Bill Hardie, president and founder of Keystone Construction Company.
The expansive 325,000-square-foot CarShield Sportsplex will be constructed on a 33-acre site at 530 North Eatherton Road in Chesterfield Valley. Once completed, the facility will include four indoor turf soccer fields, two indoor ice rinks, team locker rooms, a pro shop, training and fitness areas, a restaurant and bar, concessions, classrooms, competition ice rinks, and much more. In essence, it will be a comprehensive facility for youth athletes and their families.
Additionally, the Sportsplex will feature three outdoor turf soccer fields, concessions, a dining patio, and a children’s playground. Keystone acts as the project’s design/build general contractor, with Stock & Associates serving as the civil engineer and Gray Design Group as the architect. The Sportsplex is tailored to support CarShield’s current soccer and hockey clubs, including Nacho Novas’ CarShield Futbol Program and J.P Beilsten’s elite AAA CarShield hockey program, making it one of the largest facilities in the Midwest.
“As we collaborated, the project evolved into a much larger facility that accommodates both indoor soccer and hockey, reducing the focus on outdoor soccer,” Hardie explained. “They appreciated our ability to consolidate the scope and programming effectively.”
Founded in 2005, CarShield provides auto insurance coverage to drivers nationwide, encompassing over 2 million vehicles. Hardie noted that the new facility is a passion project for the CarShield team, particularly for CEO Nicholas Hamilton. As an athlete himself, Hamilton’s enthusiasm for sports greatly influenced the Sportsplex’s design and project approach. According to Hardie, everyone involved in the development team is eager for families to experience the dedication and passion for youth sports infused into the facility.
“They wanted to elevate the project beyond what is typically offered, as it is intended for their own teams,” Hardie stated. “They are investing in creating a facility that exceeds conventional standards; they’ve guided us in designing a top-tier sports complex.”
While initially reserved for CarShield teams, the new Sportsplex signifies a growing trend in youth sports development across the region. Hardie noted that Chesterfield, in particular, has benefited from this expansion.
“There’s a significant youth sports presence in this area with various facilities emerging; it’s developing into a vibrant sports entertainment hub in Chesterfield,” he remarked. “This influx is stimulating demand for nearby hotels, restaurants, and shopping. The more children and families we attract, the greater the need for complementary businesses.”
